19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging season, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with former mentor his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's first championship following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

Victory also indicates he has secured 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children together, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

The player's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was concluded.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour title, seized the initiative to create a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, he earned victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
