The total count of victims from the transport jet which burst into flames and went down has now climbed to 13, per recent statements.
Official's Announcement
While en route to the Workers’ candlelight gathering, I was informed of a 13th person that lost their life as a result of the aircraft crash,” wrote the local official in a online message. “My thoughts are with the families, associates and co-workers of all who were lost in this week’s tragedy. We will get through this together.”
Deceased Named
A statement from the company listed the flight crew operating the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.
“Our sympathies are extended to all staff member who has been affected and all in our community region – assisting you and making sure you get the support and resources you need is our main concern,” the organization’s message read.
Probe Details
Federal officials disclosed that the UPS cargo plane’s left wing caught fire and an engine separated just after liftoff from the airfield, leading to the jet to crash and burst into a fireball.
The National Transportation Safety Board stated it is probing the jet’s upkeep logs, which was in the state for repairs a period prior to the crash.
Aircraft data showed the aircraft was on the runway in the Texas city from 3 September to 18 October.
“We are knowledgeable that this plane was located in San Antonio,” said an official on the following day, not giving a specific date range. “We will look at every piece of service that was performed, even the San Antonio period, straight to the date of the journey.”
Findings of Vital Components
The audio device and data recorder were recovered, and the motor was located on the tarmac.
The recorders – referred to as flight recorders – were designed to survive crash impacts and intense fire from infernos, and they seemed to be intact when located among the crash debris. Authorities plan on examining recordings from the black boxes.
Aircraft’s final recorded information indicated an elevation of that level and a rate of that speed ahead of the accident.
Repair History
Per FAA documents dated last month, a crack on a part inside the fuel container required maintenance.
Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which indicated it offers structural repairs for the company’s MD-11 and manages a repair facility in San Antonio, declined to provide remarks, but expressed it would work closely when relevant authorities approached it.
Services Restart
At the same time, the facility services restarted last night with its overnight also known as nighttime process, official Jim Mayer confirmed. The three tarmacs at the aviation hub were likewise back in operation.
The distribution hub in this location is the firm’s biggest. The facility hires in excess of twenty thousand workers in the region, handles numerous flights daily and organizes over a huge volume of parcels each hour.
Local Response
A gathering was organized on the late afternoon of that date by the local worker’s group, which supports employees at the airfield, the firm’s largest air cargo hub.
Teamsters Local 89, which represents UPS workers, began the vigil with a quiet tribute at 5.14pm, the rough hour of the crash previously.
“This tragedy was so sudden, so unforeseen,” the leader spoke to the crowd of 200. “No one had a moment to say goodbye to each of those who we have mourned.”
